Language
The Khmer language is very unique. To the Western eyes the characters are much like those of Thai but a closer look reveals that they are in fact different. The older Cambodian spoke French that was the principal language used in educational system until 1975 even the French colony died since 1953. And today like many other countries in Asia now the young Cambodian generation chooses English as their second language.
Religion
Buddhism is the state religion in Cambodia. We worship Theravada Buddhism the same as Thai, Laos, and Myanmar. In fact, the original religion of the Khmer people before the Christian era was the animism but because of the Indianization in early of the Christian era brought Hinduism and Buddhism into Cambodia. Now the Khmer people worship three religions at the same time, Animism, Hinduism, and Buddhism, but the people do not know they worship three religions, they think that every religious activities they practice for daily life all are Buddhist.
Khmer Foods
Rice and fish are the basic meals among the Khmers. Local specialties include curries, soups, and many varieties of dishes prepared with beef, pork, poultry, and seafood, which is abundant in the rivers and oceans. Chinese, Vietnamese and Thai cuisines are also common to Cambodian as well as a variety of western cuisines, which can be found in all the major restaurants in Cambodia. As the result of the increasing of tourists in Cambodia the restaurant and bar life has remarkably expanded day to day.
